Union Fire District Contains Brush Fire near Old Mountain Field

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch reports that the Union Fire District of South Kingstown and colleagues from the Kingston Fire District responded to a two-alarm brush fire on Thursday near Old Mountain Field.

At 5:32 p.m., crews received a report of a brush fire in a wooded area near 831 Kingstown Road. Upon arrival firefighters encountered fire on a two- to three-acre wooded lot.

The lot, located near Old Mountain Field’s skateboard park, was inaccessible for fire equipment. Crews stretched lines from near the skateboard park, which involved a sizable amount of manual labor.

It took about three hours to wrap up operations. Thirty firefighters and 10 pieces of apparatus were used in knocking down the fire. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Chief Pinch thanked his firefighters for their quick work at the scene. “Our crews did a good job of getting out there and containing the fire,” he said.
