Permitting Information

Residential smoke alarm and carbon monoxide Certificates are required for the resale of existing homes.

Smoke Alarm Inspections are conducted during normal business hours on a schedule determined by the Fire Marshal. The $30.00 inspection fee must be received, prior to the inspection. Application for these inspections will be through the Town of South Kingstown’s View Point Cloud E-Permitting system (click here). Call the Union Fire District at (401)789-8354 to schedule the inspection after completing the application.

NOTE: You are advised to schedule your inspection to take place at least 2 weeks prior to your closing to allow for any deficiencies to be corrected.

Smoke Detector Certificates will be issued electronically at the time of the inspection for those properties that are deemed to be in compliance. A re-inspection must be scheduled for any property found to be non-compliant. An additional $60.00 fee may be charged for each re-inspection required.
