SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch and the Union Fire District of South Kingstown (UFD) are pleased to announce that Capt. Andy Duckworth has been appointed to deputy chief.
Deputy Chief Duckworth was sworn into the position at the Warden’s Board Meeting last month. He officially started in the position on Aug. 22.
Deputy Chief Duckworth is a longtime member of the UFD, having joined in 2005 as a junior member and transitioning to an active firefighter position in 2007. Shortly after in 2009, Deputy Chief Duckworth became a lieutenant. Most recently he served as a captain at the Matunuck Fire Department since 2011. In addition to his career in the fire service, Deputy Chief Duckworth works for the Town of Narragansett Parks and Recreation Department.
In his new role, Deputy Chief Duckworth will move from the Matunuck Station to a command position for the entire district. He will assist in day-to-day operations, cover duty shifts, and coordinate recruitment and retention programs for the UFD
“It’s an honor to have Andy as the UFD’s new Deputy Chief,” said Chief Pinch. “He is a skilled and seasoned firefighter and leader. I look forward to working with him and to see him succeed in his new role.”
The position of deputy chief has been vacant since Warden Richard Collinson retired.
