We are chartered by the State of Rhode Island to raise funds through taxation to provide fire coverage to the Town of South Kingstown. Since we are not a town department, your fire tax is separate and apart from your property tax bill.

It takes a lot of dedication and time to be a volunteer firefighter. The fire taxes pay for the equipment, training, fuel, gear, and everything else needed to provide fire service. It also pays for the office of the Fire Marshal, which completes safety inspections mandated by the State of Rhode Island.

The UFD bills for fire taxes once a year in late September. Tax payments are due in full by October 31st.

Payments can be made through our online portal, or by visiting the Business Office located at 131 Asa Pond Road. For your convenience, there is also a drop box located outside the front door.

We accept cash, check, or credit card (MasterCard or Visa).

Yes, you can prepay your fire taxes in most circumstances. Please call the office at 401-783-0617.

Unlike the Town, we do not know who you have your mortgage with. The annual fire tax bill is mailed to the owner of record. If you are escrowing for fire taxes, it is your responsibility to forward the bill to them.
