Union Fire District of South Kingstown Welcomes New Administrator Brian Mahoney

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch is pleased to announce that the Union Fire District of South Kingstown recently welcomed a new Administrator for the district, Brian Mahoney.

District Administrator Mahoney started the job in March after being offered the role by the Union Fire District Board of Wardens.

“It was a great honor to be offered the role by the Union Fire District Board of Wardens,” Administrator Mahoney said. ” The Wardens felt I was the best fit to lead the administrative side of the fire district, with my set of skills and personality, which is a huge level of trust that I take as no light task. The Union Fire District does great work for the South Kingstown community, not only in saving lives and keeping the town safe but also through the many hours of public engagement and community events that our firefighters participate in.”

Administrator Mahoney filled the position following the retirement of former Administrator John Blessing, who held the position for the past 13 years.

“Learning the new field of firefighting is a very interesting and exciting challenge,” Administrator Mahoney said. “The Union Fire District has a rich history of life-saving work and changes over the years, which I want to immerse myself in to gain more knowledge of the firefighting world. I hope to bring to the district all the knowledge that I’ve acquired over the years, to benefit the day-to-day operations of the administrative offices.”

Administrator Mahoney previously worked for six years at the South Kingstown School Department, first as Assistant Facilities Director and then as Facilities and Transportation Director. In his most recent role for the South Kingstown School Department, Mahoney was responsible for day-to-day operations, including bus transportation, the maintenance of five schools, two decommissioned sites and two administration buildings, leading 25 staff members. This work also included grant writing, securing energy, safety and other building-based grants, contributing to financial savings for the district.

“My role at the schools and UFD has many naturally overlapping areas such as being taxpayer-funded, spurring community engagement, dealing with budgeting processes, providing emergency response, promoting health, assuring safety, and managing various different positions,” Administrator Mahoney said.

Administrator Mahoney is a Narragansett native, who lives in in South Kingstown with his wife, three kids and a golden retriever.

Administrator Mahoney plans to always make himself available to Union Fire District employees and to community members. He said he looks forward to doing all he can to advance to the Union Fire District’s mission of service to the community.

“I am not the kind of person to punch my timecard and go home. My goal is to bring all I can to the Union Fire District and be here to serve the South Kingstown residents who entrust their fire tax dollars to this great organization,” Administrator Mahoney said. “My goal is to always have my door open for anyone who needs help or has questions. If I don’t have the answer, I will find out how to get it. I feel great pride already being brought on by the Union Fire District as a member of such a hardworking and respected fire department.”
