Chief Steven Pinch on behalf of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown (UFD) and Chief Tom Reed of the Kingston Fire District are pleased to announce that they have recently awarded six scholarships.
Of the six scholarship recipients, two were presented their scholarships at the South Kingstown High School awards ceremony on June 7. The other four recipients received their scholarships on June 14, at the UFD’s administration building.
“I am honored to award these bright and talented students and firefighters these scholarships,” said Chief Pinch. “I wish them luck in their future studies and endeavors.”
The scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $2,500. Applicants needed to meet certain requirements in order to be eligible to receive a scholarship. Recipients needed to be either a relative of a current member of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown or the Kingston Fire District, be a current member of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown or the Kingston Fire District, or be a senior attending an area high school.

Eligible recipients also needed to complete a written essay explaining what public service means to them.
Funding for the scholarships was generously provided by the Town of South Kingstown, and approved by the Town Council.
