Union Fire District of South Kingstown Responds to Multiple Fires

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch reports that the Union Fire District responded to multiple fires this past weekend.

On Sunday, Aug. 7 at approximately 2 a.m., Union Fire District received a call for a fire at a home on Robinson Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found that a fire had broken out on a bathroom ceiling fan and had extended to the attic of the home.

UFD members worked quickly to extinguish the fire, and no injuries were reported. Stations 2, 3, 6 and 9 responded.

The second response occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. when Stations 4,8 and 9 were dispatched for a reported structure on fire on Sir Michael Court in West Kingston. Engine 22 was first on scene, and found a shed fire that had extended into the nearby brush. Due to extreme heat conditions, Stations 1 and 3 were called for additional manpower.

The fire was quickly extinguished within minutes.

The Union Fire District Fire Marshal and Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s office responded to investigate the cause of the fire.

Engines 22, 24, 21, 20, 7, 10 and Ladder 1 responded and rehab was provided by South Kingstown EMS.

“Several of our stations worked together Sunday on multiple calls for service, and when adding in the extreme weather conditions they should be commended for their quick and highly efficient responses,” Chief Pinch said.
