SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown and Chief Tom Reed of the Kingston Fire District are pleased to announce that the two departments, in conjunction with the Town of South Kingstown, have once again awarded scholarships to area students.
The scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $2,500. Students who applied needed to meet certain requirements, including being a graduating senior in the Class of 2022 or a current South Kingstown firefighter.
Students who received scholarships this year include the following:
Students represent multiple area high schools, including South Kingstown High School, Cumberland High School and Portsmouth High School.
Scholarship recipients needed to be either a relative of a current member of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown or the Kingston Fire District, be a current member of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown or the Kingston Fire District, or be a senior attending an area high school.
Eligible recipients also needed to complete a written essay explaining what public service means to them.
Funding for the scholarships was generously provided by the Town of South Kingstown, and approved by the Town Council.
“Chief Reed and I would like to thank the Town Council for continuing to support this scholarship program year after year,” Chief Pinch said. “Recognizing and enabling young students to explore careers in medical and first responder fields is something we take a great deal of pride in, and we congratulate each of the deserving recipients of this year’s awards.”
