SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch is pleased to report that the Union Fire District of South Kingstown celebrated the completion of the department’s newly-renovated Tower Hill station this past weekend.
On Saturday, Aug. 21, members of UFD’s Tower Hill/Station 6 welcomed members of the community to tour the new station, which was completed earlier this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UFD was unable to officially open the station to the public until now.
Renovations were also made to the exterior of the building, which was an emphasis of the project due to the station’s high visibility on the heavily traveled Route 1/Tower Hill Road.
The new sign on the front lawn of the building was created by local scout Andrew Bard, as part of his Eagle Scout project.
The approximately $1.5 million renovation project took eight months to complete.
“We’re very pleased with the outcome of the new station, and the members are very happy with the outcome as well,” Chief Pinch said. “We had been using parts of the original station that were built in the 1950s, so being able to have a more efficient and spacious facility makes it easier for members to do their jobs.”
