SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch reports that the Union Fire District of South Kingstown extinguished a structure fire in the Wakefield neighborhood early this morning.
At 4:37 a.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to a single family home on Dendron Road for the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire and smoke showing from the structure.
Firefighters determined that all occupants of the building had vacated by the time crews arrived on scene.
UFD crews, along with the Kingston Fire District, were already in the area responding to an alarm sounding at nearby South County Hospital. A second alarm was quickly struck to assist units at the structure fire, and the Narragansett Fire Department was called to assist units at the hospital.
The structure fire was contained within 20 minutes, and most units had cleared the scene by 6:30 a.m. One unit remained on scene to assist the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The South Kingstown Police Department and South Kingstown EMS provided support. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
“I applaud the Union Fire District and Kingston Fire District firefighters who responded to this fire in the early hours of the morning, especially considering that crews were already busy dealing with an alarm at the nearby hospital,” Chief Pinch said. “Crews from multiple agencies worked together to ensure no one was injured as a result of the fire.”
The fire remains under investigation by the Union Fire District and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
