SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch of the Union Fire District of South Kingstown and Chief Nathan Barrington of the Kingston Fire District are pleased to announce that the two departments will be co-hosting a holiday toy drive this weekend for families in need.

WHEN:

Saturday, Dec. 12 and Sunday, Dec. 13, from 4-6 p.m.

WHERE:

Wakefield Mall parking lot, 160 Old Tower Hill Road, Wakefield, R.I.

WHAT:

The Union Fire District, Kingston Fire District, South Kingstown Police Department and South Kingstown EMS will be hosting a COVID-friendly, drive-thru holiday toy drive.

New, unwrapped toys or gift cards will be accepted for families in need. In keeping with social distancing protocols, those planning on attending are asked to remain in their vehicles and gifts will be retrieved by an officer or firefighter.

All gifts collected during the event will be distributed to the South Kingstown-based Jonnycake Center for Hope, which provides basic needs and resources to residents to combat hunger and poverty in the community.

“This year, with the ongoing pandemic still impacting all of our lives, it is more important than ever to help our friends and neighbors in any way we can,” Chief Pinch said. “That is why it is important for us to be partnering with the KFD, SKPD and South Kingstown EMS for this toy drive. We encourage any resident who is able to donate to the drive to assist those in need this holiday season.”
